ACE Speech Therapy is committed to providing high-quality, evidence-informed assessments for a variety of suspected communication disorders. A variety of formal and informal assessment procedures are available to provide client-centered evaluations. Each evaluation includes the standard scores and percentiles drawn from the given standardized assessment, interpretation of the scores and observations, a diagnosis (if applicable), and therapy recommendations. If a comprehensive evaluation is provided through ACE and a client also chooses to seek therapy services through the private practice, a therapy progress note will be provided at the end of an 8-wk or 12-wk intervention period.

ASSESSMENT SERVICES

Speech Sound Production

A speech sound production assessment includes a standardized measure that determines the presence or absence of a speech sound disorder, and the severity of the speech sound disorder. A detailed analysis of speech sound production errors and/or phonological patterns will be provided. A speech sound disorder diagnosis may be characterized by either articulation errors or phonological errors, or both articulation and phonological errors.

Language/Literacy

The aim of this evaluation is to determine the presence or absence of a language/literacy disorder such as dyslexia. All four language domains are assessed (i.e., listening, speaking, reading, writing) as well as phonemic awareness, phonological processing, word reading efficiency, and reading decoding abilities. This information provides the clinician with strong evidence to diagnose dyslexia or other language/literacy disorders such as a specific comprehension disorder, developmental language disorder, or typically developing language skills.

Language

A language assessment includes the administration of subtests in the area of oral language. These help the practitioner determine whether a receptive or expressive language disorder is present. This assessment focuses specifically on understanding patterns of strengths and areas needing support in the domain of oral language. Simply stated, this measures listening skills (receptive language) and speaking skills (expressive language).

Stuttering

A stuttering evaluation includes a holistic approach to understanding how a person’s communication impacts their participation in every day living activities. To better understand the client’s communication strengths and areas needing support, the client and relevant others (i.e., parents, caregiver, partner, etc.) will be interviewed or complete a survey. A standardized assessment will be administered to understand the impact of stuttering on a client’s every day life. Next, a speaking and reading sample will be gathered, as well as an analysis of core and secondary behaviors to understand patterns of avoidance and/or escape behaviors.
